Interesting Facts about Bungee Jumping
Did you know that the idea of bungee jumping comes from a legend? The origins of bungee jumping are the liana jumpers from the Pacific island state of Vanuatu. According to the legend, a man mistreated his wife there and she is said to have fled one day. In order to finally escape, she tied a vine around her ankle and jumped off a cliff. Her husband jumped after her without a liana and died. A tradition and a festival emerged from the legend. Every year, numerous young men jump down the cliffs in Vanuatu as a kind of test of courage. Bungee jumping as we know it today with elastic rope has been known since 1979 and was first performed in Bristol, England.
There are different types of bungee jumping: the single jump, in which you jump alone and have a harness attached to your feet or hips; the tandem jump, in which two jumpers are secured by a harness and a seat belt; the dip-in, in which you jump over a body of water and, depending on the case, dip into it briefly. There is also the rocket bungee, where it goes from the bottom up, because you jump from the ground into the air after the bungee rope is stretched upwards by a crane and the jumper is pulled into the air. Bungee jumping is even possible from a helicopter, although this is the supreme discipline, because at a height of approx. 700 m the free fall can be 400 m.
What you Need to Know Before Going Bungee Jumping
Bungee jumping is an extreme sport, so some requirements must be met before jumping. The jumpers must be in good physical and mental health and the body weight must be between 50 kg and 120 kg, depending on the rope and type of jump. If you suffer from conditions such as back pain, we recommend that you consult your doctor before bungee jumping. You should wear comfortable and sporty clothes for the jump.
Bungee Jumping Locations in Croatia
There are currently three well-known bungee jumping locations on the coast of Croatia. Two are jumping from a bridge down to the sea and the third is jumping from a crane. All jumps are organized and carried out by experienced and professional teams and, of course, the safety of everyone involved has top priority.
Bungee Jumping from the Maslenica Bridge near Zadar
In the vicinity of Zadar, right next to the highway bridge, there is the recognizable red Maslenica bridge. Even from the car, this red bridge stands out from the landscape and this is exactly where the platform for bungee jumping is located. You jump from a height of 56 m towards the sea and are stopped by the rope only 5 m above the water surface, so a real adrenaline rush is experienced! You have the option to jump with a go-pro and immortalize your jump forever. After the jump, a boat will be waiting for you in the sea, which will bring you back on land. The jump costs around 500 kn (approx. 67 €) and a transfer by taxi can also be organized.
Adrenaline Rush on the Sibenik Bridge
The next location for bungee jumping in Croatia is a little further south just before the city of Sibenik in Dalmatia on the Sibenik bridge. In the middle of the bridge is a platform from which the jump takes place. You jump from a height of approx. 40 m towards the sea and here, too, you have the opportunity to film your daring jump with a Go-Pro. The difference to the Maslenica Bridge is that you are not brought back by boat after the jump, but are pulled up again, which is another special experience, especially in front of such a picturesque backdrop. For around 400 kn (approx. 54 €) you can take the plunge from the Sibenik bridge.
Bungee Jumping on the Party Beach Zrce on the Island of Pag
The island of Pag and especially Zrce beach are well known for their clubs and bars popular among young party-seeking holidaymakers. But the party beach also offers something for those who want to push their limits. Directly on Zrce beach there is a 41 m high crane, from which bungee jumping is carried out. The facility is open both day and night and allows you to take a very special jump. Of course there is again the possibility of filming everything with a Go-Pro. The price for the jump is 400 kn (approx. 54 €).
